SUMMARY:Holiday Parade at the Beach
DESCRIPTION:The parade organizers have accepted our application to participate!  We are limited to 8 cars and all cars must be decorated (no political messages)!  The parade will be along Atlantic Avenue between 15th and 25th Streets.  The parade steps off at 5:30PM.  The acceptance e-mail states that no candy can be thrown or handed to spectators from within our cars and that we be staged on Atlantic Ave by 4:00PM.  Staging will be between 7th and 15th St on Atlantic Ave.  I’ve adjusted our meet time to now be at 3:30PM. I’ll be working with Michele to determine a meeting location and other details to possibly include dinner after the parade.  Michele Suttle will be leading this event.  Her cell phone is 757-287-7875.  Also\, I’ll receive additional information from the organizers next week (our unit# and exactly where we will stage on Atlantic Ave.) and will forward to Michele. \nOf interest… WSKY-TV (channel 4 on Cox Cable) will be recording the event.  Not sure when it will air.  We’ll just have to keep an eye on the TV schedule.  Also\, there’s the disclaimer that it will be edited for time\, but hopefully we’ll see our cars on TV! \nHere are the beachcombers who have signed up: \n\nLV and Mike Torian\nMack Coppage\nMichele Suttle\nDebbie and Jake Orbach\nKristie Hollingsworth\nAnthony DeLaura\nWoody Cohen\nSandy and Mike Pristas\n\nAlternates: \n\nTerrie and Kent Wagoner\n\nThis list will be updated periodically.  This list last updated on November 21st.

SUMMARY:Mayflower Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore is hosting their 27th Mayflower Marathon.  This year’s location has changed.  We will meet at Lynnhaven Mall at the parking lot between JC Penney and Dillard’s along the Mall Loop at 11:00AM.  Bring non-perishable food and money/check for donation.  For more\, here is the Foodbank Shopping List. \nLunch will follow at 12:30PM at the food court by the AMC Theaters at Las Palmas 2 Mexican Restaurant located at 1009 Lynnhaven Loop\, Virginia Beach\, VA 23452 (here). \nFor more information contact Preston Powers.  His cell phone # is 757-449-7676.  Thank you Preston! \nFrom an anonymous visitor… \nSo\, I spent some time at a Food Bank today\, and spoke to the people getting food. Here are some things I learned from those in need: \n\nEveryone donates Kraft Mac and Cheese in the box. They can rarely use it because it needs milk and butter which is hard to get from regular food banks.\nBoxed milk is a treasure\, as kids need it for cereal which they also get a lot of.\nEveryone donates pasta sauce and spaghetti noodles.\nThey cannot eat all the awesome canned veggies and soup unless you put a can opener in too or buy pop tops.\nOil is a luxury but needed for Rice a-Roni which they also get a lot of.\nSpices or salt and pepper would be a real gift.\nTea bags and coffee make them feel like you care.\nSugar and flour are treats.\nThey fawn over fresh produce donated by farmers and grocery stores.\nSeeds are cool in Spring and Summer because growing can be easy for some.\nThey rarely get fresh meat.\nTuna and crackers make a good lunch.\nHamburger Helper goes nowhere without ground beef.\nThey get lots of peanut butter and jelly but usually not sandwich bread.\nButter or margarine is nice too.\nEggs are a real commodity.\nCake mix and frosting makes it possible to make a child’s birthday cake.\nDishwashing detergent is very expensive and is always appreciated.\nFeminine hygiene products are a luxury and women will cry over that.\nEveryone loves Stove Top Stuffing.\n\nIn all the years I have donated food\, I bought what I thought they wanted\, but have never asked. I am glad I did. If you are helping a Family\, maybe this can help you tailor it more. It does for me! \n

SUMMARY:Queen City Corvette Club's 12th Annual Corvette Show
DESCRIPTION:QUEEN CITY CORVETTE CLUB – CAR SHOW\nThe Queen City Corvette Club (QCCC) of Charlotte will be hosting their 2023 car show to be held in Charlotte\, NC at the Hendrick Motorsports complex and usually has 400+ Corvettes! \nRegistration is open!  In addition to registering for the show for $30\, you can also purchase VIP parking at the show’s center for an additional $30.  The link to register is here. \nAlso\, this year there are two separate tours at the Hendrick Motor sport complex.  The first tour is at the Hendrick Heritage Center to see Rick’s car collection which lasts about 1 hour.  Tickets are $30 each.  The second tour is at the Race Shop and Engine Shop for his 4 cars: the #5\, #9\, #24\, and #48.  Tickets are $30 each.  The link to these tickets is here. \n           Below are some suggestions on where to stay and things to do while in the Charlotte area in addition to the Car Show.  On Saturday\, the Car Show is scheduled for registration to open at 8:00 am and at 2:00 pm is the presentation of awards which should allow time for other things to do on Friday evening and Saturday after the show (suggestions below). \n\n            HOTEL: A hotel has been chosen where the price is more affordable than the host hotel\, it is centrally located and is only a mile from the Car Show venue.  The hotel is the RESIDENCE INN (By Marriott) Charlotte / Concord located at 7601 Scott Padgett Parkway\, Concord\, NC.  There is no block of rooms!  The hotel recommends for everyone to go online and book their own room.  There is a Senior Rate (62 and older) of $135.00 (+tax) per night\, breakfast included.  The Residence Inn’s phone number is 1-704-454-7862 should you need to call them. \n            Obviously\, you can stay wherever you wish but if we’re all at the same hotel we can socialize in the lobby in the evenings\, which in the past has always proven to be a fun time. \n            HEAD COUNT: For the Ghost Tour (see below) and dining reservations it’s imperative we know how many travelers there will be.  To keep the organizers informed of the number of people traveling on this outing please sign-up on the BCC Website\, sign-up at the September or October BCC Business Meeting\, or contact me.  This will be the count used for determining the tour size and cost and for making group lunch and dinner reservations. \n            PLANNING: We’ll depart from Greenbrier Mall on Friday\, October 20 at about 10:00 am and proceed to the Residence Inn\, which is about 300 miles away\, about a five-hour drive.  Naturally there will be ample convenience stops along the way as well as a lunch stop.  After checking in at the hotel we’ll head to the Mount Pleasant SMOKEHOUSE for dinner before the tour. \nOTHER THINGS TO DO \n            GHOST TOUR: Earlier this year the Beachcombers traveled to the Southern Grace Distillery which is in an out-of-use prison about two miles outside of Mount Pleasant\, NC for a tour and sampling of their Conviction Bourbon.  While we were there\, we learned that the distillery is haunted.  We also learned that they offer nighttime paranormal tours which sounds interesting for everyone.  We’ve obtained a private tour for the BCC on Friday night; however\, the tour size is limited to 20 people.  So\, if this appeals to you\, you can enjoy an interesting Friday evening and later that evening we can all tell stories while we socialize with Conviction Bourbon at the hotel.  The cost for this private tour is $750.00 which will be divided by the number of participants.  (If we had 20 people participate\, that would be $37.50 per person.)    This includes a tasting before the tour starts.  The tour begins around 7:00 pm and lasts about three hours.  We will be able to move the time a little earlier or later.  The distillery is located about 20 miles from the RESIDENCE INN with the Mount Pleasant SMOKEHOUSE restaurant about two miles from the distillery.  Visit www.southerngracedistilleries.com for more information about the distillery and the ghost tour. \n            COMEDY CLUB BUS TOUR ($35 per person):  Another consideration for this weekend is the FUNNY Bus Comedy Tour of Charlotte.  What makes this unique is that the tour guide is a stand-up comedian.  This is an adult themed tour\, and you are allowed to bring your adult beverages aboard the bus and party as you’re entertained and learn about the city.  The tour lasts about 90-minutes.  These tours often sell out\, so if you plan to go\, you should purchase tickets early.  Go to Charlotte Funny Bus Comedy City Tour for more information. \n            RICHARD CHILDRESS VINEYARD: On Sunday morning we’ll depart the RESIDENCE INN about noon to allow an arrival at the Richard Childress Vineyards for lunch before heading home.  We currently have a reservation for a group of 14 at 1:00 pm. \nA link to the PDF which contains this travel information is here. \nYou can sign-up/RSVP below. \nHere is a list of attendees: \n\nPreston Powers\nKaren and Dave Ambrose\nFran and John Kummers\nMarge and Joe Wryk\nLaverne and JJ\nSandi and Richard Gatling\nJeff Biggs\nNickie and Al Plotnik\nMichele and Perry Suttle\nKelly and Steve St.Clair\nCarolyn and Ed Bickham\nBrenda and Skip Cutting\nButch Glover\nTerrie and Kent Wagoner\n\nThe above list will be updated periodically.  Last updated on October 4th.

DESCRIPTION:Ken Holley of Hampton Roads Corvette Club (HRCC) has organized a “Corvette only” event for Dominion Raceway located at 6501 Dominion Raceway Ave\, Woodford\, VA 22580 about 45 minutes North of Richmond.  There will be a maximum of 24 Corvettes for this event.  Know that he has 6-8 spots remaining. \nHere are the details… \nThe group will arrive at the Raceway at noon and register.  There is no automotive tech inspection and helmets are not required.  Please self-inspect your car!  Following registration\, there will be a drivers’ meeting at 1:00PM which lasts about 1/2 hour.  After the meeting\, the group splits into two.  The first group will head out on the track.  Halfway around\, the 2nd group enters the track.  Initially\, each group moves (relatively) slowly allowing the drivers to acclimate to the track and slowly speed up.  The first session ends after 6-7 laps and the track is exited.  Each group shuffles their order and heads out for a 2nd session of 6-7 laps.  Cars leave the track again and reshuffle.  A third session occurs for a last set of 6-7 laps.  Once over\, cars exit the track.  Expect max speed of 100+mph on the straightaway. All of this is $99.00.  Time at the Raceway is approximately 2 to 2-1/2 hours. \nAfter everyone leaves to head home approximately 2:30PM.  The HRCC will have a twisty drive to Tappahannock for a lunch if you wanted to continue the day for a late lunch\, or just head home. \nSince its a 2-1/2 hour drive to the Raceway\, Beachcombers will meet at Greenbrier Mall at 9:00AM near Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant.  Depart 9:15AM and head to the I-64 Rest Area in New Kent\, VA at mile marker 213.  Arrive at the Rest Area at 10:30AM.  Depart the Rest Area at 10:45AM.  Arrive at the Raceway by noon. \nIf you wish to go\, you will have to contact Ken Holley directly: \nKen Holley\nText/Cell (757) 291-3468\nemail:  keninwmbg@aol.com \n\n\n \nOnce you’ve contacted Ken\, you will have to register at the track\, to identify yourself\, your car and payment information.  Ken will provide a link to register to his private Corvette Track Attack event where you can then pre-register.\n\n\n \nA short video to see a Track Attack event at the Raceway is here.  The Raceway has information about Track Attack events here.\n \nHere are some other route possibilities to drive with a group if you decide to not drive as above:\n\nContact Ken (as above)\, he will lead a group leaving from a location in Hampton.\nContact Ed Bickham (757-434-3046). SUMMARY:Oceana Air Show
DESCRIPTION:For many years\, the Beachcombers have been supporting the Virginia Patriot Guard Riders with their vignette at the Oceana Air Show.  This year will be like last year with our cars on the Tarmac each day of the air show as part of the “Static Display”.  We will be adjacent to where the VPG will have their motorcycles (left/southwest of show center).  We will be escorting women in aviation in our cars each day of the air show.  Knowing the Oceana Air show website (here) indicates the air show is Saturday and Sunday.  There is also an air show on Friday.  The Friday air show is not open to the public.  It is open only to DOD members\, their families\, and 5th graders from local schools.  As of now\, we will open the air show each day.  Our vignette will start between 10-10:30AM and should be finished around 11:00AM.  After the vignette\, you can leave NAS Oceana\, or return to the static display and watch the air show.  If you will be able to leave before the end of the air show. \nLt. Amanda Lee will be flying the #3\, left wing\, during the show.  The link here has all of the officers on the current Blue Angel’s team.  You can read about her\, as well as all of the team members.  Know that she is a graduate of ODU! \nAll drivers and passengers need to be vetted!  Alternates too!  We will be filling out forms for this special base access.  The exception to this is if you have a DOD ID which already gives you base access.  Our vetting form will be submitted on Wednesday morning (September 6).  After that\, only Beachcombers with DOD IDs (or others who are on the vetting paperwork) can fill in if you cannot make it. \nWith our support each of the 3 days of the air show\, we will be needing 2-4 cars on Friday\, and 6-8 cars each day on Saturday and Sunday.  If we already have 4 cars on Friday\, 8 on Saturday\, 8 on Sunday\, please sign up as an alternate.  It is inevitable that personal reasons get in the way of attending\, and we need to go down the list of alternates who have been vetted to ensure we have enough cars to support the VPG. \nKnow that this is a rain or shine event!  Should the Air Boss running each day’s Air Show decide to cancel/postpone that day’s show due to weather\, I’ll let each participant know. \nFor those interested in knowing more about the Virginia Patriot Guard\, you can visit their website here. \nHere are the Cars/Attendees for each day at the Air Show: \nFriday\, September 15th (names after 8 are alternates): \n\nBill Kaelin\nHoward Hodges\nMike Ware\nPete Taylor\nKent Wagoner\nAnnie Lahren\nJohnny Jones\nJay Vega\n\nSaturday\, September 16th (names after 8 are alternates): \n\nWendy Hanson and Bill Kaelin\nFrank Little\nAnnie Lahren\nKristie Hollingsworth and Kevin Adams\nMike Ware\nJake Orbach\nTerrie and Kent Wagoner\nPete Taylor\nJohnny Jones\nJay Vega\n\nSunday\, September 17th (names after 8 are alternates): \n\nPatrick Nolan\nLV and Mike Torain\nTerrie and Kent Wagoner\nAnnie Lahren\nBob Bray\nPreston and Wes Powers\nJohn Pitts\nWendy Hanson and Bill Kaelin\nMike Ware\nKristie Hollingsworth\n\nThese lists will be updated periodically.  These lists last updated on September 6th.
