Refundable king suites are $189/night (member)\, $199/night (non-member); refundable double-queen suites are $237/night (member)\, $249/night (non-member).  The Residence Inn’s phone number is 1-704-454-7862 should you need to call them.  This year each is on their own for room accommodations. \nLooking at other hotel options for refundable rooms on September 7th at hotels.com for a check-in on October 18th and check-out on October 20th\, there are several within a few miles from the Hendrick Motorsports complex.  The search I used is here.  There’s a Sleep Inn with free breakfast with a rating of 7.6 for $134/night ($302 total).  Best rating is 8.4 and that’s for a Comfort Suites-Concord Mills for $165/night ($373 total).  The lowest price (5.4 rating) is the HomeTowne Studios & Suites by Red Roof for $70/night ($158 total).  There are other choices many of which are in the high $100s to low $200s per night. \nFor those traveling to the show\, there are currently 5 cars going (as of October 10th).  Three cars are leaving Thursday (the 17th) and two are leaving Friday.  If you decide to go\, let me know which day and I’ll connect you with those traveling that day so you can drive together.  IMPORTANT!  There is no longer a group meeting at Greenbrier Mall Friday morning.  Please contact me!   \nAlso know it’s nice to park as a group during the show.  To do so\, the group must arrive together to the show.  If you don’t\, there’s no way to reserve adjacent parking spots! \nFor the return trip\, Preston will not be returning to Virginia Beach on Sunday\, but for those wishing to have lunch Sunday at the Childress Vinyards (a favorite restaurant\, phone: 336-236-9463) which is located at 1000 Childress Vineyards Rd\, Lexington\, NC 27295. \nIf you plan to go\, please sign-up/RSVP below. \nHere is a list of Beachcombers (by car) who plan to attend: \n\nKaren and Dave Ambrose\nJan and Andrew Baillie\nPreston Powers\nAngie and Mike Stallworth\nLV and Tank Torain\n\nThis list will be update periodically.  This list last updated on September 12th.

SUMMARY:35th Annual All Corvette Cruise-in
DESCRIPTION:35th Anniversary All Corvette Cruise-In\nThis is a big year for the All Corvette Cruise-In in Manassas Virginia. It’s our 35th Anniversary! Since 1990 the Cruise-In has taken place\, rain or shine\, balmy weather or heat\, even during the pandemic. \nIt’s also a big year for change: The All Corvette Cruise-In is moving! Not the location\, which remains Bomnin Chevrolet\, but the day. This year we will be holding the event on Sunday\, October 6th. It’s been held in August for so long we thought we’d better get the news of this change out early so everyone can plan accordingly. We’re also changing the time. We’re starting earlier\, at 11:00\, so those coming from far away can get an earlier start home. \nHolding it in October gets us out of the summer heat and humidity; and holding it on Sunday gives us more parking. less interference from folks bringing their pickup trucks in for service\, and gives those who work on Saturday a chance to join in. And we’re moving back to the front parking lot\, where we’ll get more visibility and attract more visitors. \nWe’ll have plenty of parking available\, along with great food\, great people\, great music\, door prizes\, a silent auction\,50/50 raffle\, and more. With a $25 donation\, you’ll receive a goodie bag\, a magnetic dash plaque\, and a door prize ticket. Register and pay online by September 29th and save $5. All ‘profits’ from the show benefit local charities and the NCM. (Yes\, we’ve raised our requested donation a bit. The costs of putting on the show have gone up\, but mostly we want to better support our charities.) \nRegistration is now open at the ODCC website: All Corvette Cruise-in Registration \nTheir flyer is here.  If you’re interested in going\, RSVP below.

SUMMARY:2024 Oceana Air Show
DESCRIPTION:For many years\, the Beachcombers have been supporting the Virginia Patriot Guard Riders with their vignette at the Oceana Air Show.  This year will be like last year with our cars on the Tarmac each day of the air show as part of the “Static Display”.  We will be adjacent to where the VPG will have their motorcycles (left/southwest of show center).  We will be escorting dignitaries in our cars each day of the air show.  Knowing the Oceana Air show website (here) indicates the air show is Saturday and Sunday.  There is an air show on Friday.  The Friday air show is not open to the public.  It is open only to DOD members\, their families\, and STEM 5th graders from local schools.  We will open the air show each day.  This year’s theme is “Inspire\, Educate\, Soar”.  Our vignette will start at 10:00AM and should be finished around 10:30AM or so.  After the vignette\, you can leave NAS Oceana or return to the static display and watch the air show.  Later if you wish\, you will be able to leave before the end of the air show.  The air show will end after the Blue Angles fly.  They are scheduled to start at 3:00PM. \nLt. Amanda Lee\, a graduate of ODU (B.S. in Biochemistry)\, will be flying Blue Angel #4 (the slot)\, during the show.  The link here has all of the officers on the current Blue Angel’s team.  You can read about her\, as well as all of the team members. \nAll drivers and passengers need to be vetted!  Alternates too!  We will be filling out forms for this special base access.  The exception to this is if you have a DOD ID which already gives you base access.  Our vetting form was submitted August 28th.  So now\, only Beachcombers with DOD IDs (or others who are on the vetting paperwork) can fill in if you cannot make it. \nWith our support each of the 3 days of the air show\, we will be needing 6-8 cars each day on Saturday and Sunday.  On Friday\, we can have 8 cars\, but some may not be participating in the vignette.  If we already have 8 cars on Friday\, 8 on Saturday\, 8 on Sunday\, please sign up as an alternate for which days you can be available.  It is inevitable that personal reasons get in the way of attending\, and we need to go down the list of alternates who have been vetted to ensure we have enough cars to support the VPG. \nWe have a special guest this year!  Richard Petty’s grandson\, Thad\, will be participating in our vignette on Saturday and Sunday!  He will be in his NASCAR truck and parked alongside our group.  A link to read a little about Thad is here. \nKnow that this is a rain or shine event!  Should the Air Boss running each day’s Air Show decide to cancel/postpone that day’s show due to weather\, I’ll let each participant know. \nFor those interested in knowing more about the Virginia Patriot Guard\, you can visit their website here. \nWe will be staging on base each day at 7:30AM at the Navy Exchange (NEX) which off of Tomcat Blvd and before/outside the Main Gate (Gate 1). The address of the NEX is within the blue “VENUES” box on this page which has a navigation link for your cell phone when driving in your car.  We will roll when all participants have arrived or no later than 8:00AM turn left on Tomcat Blvd and proceed through the Main Gate.  Once past the Main Gate\, we will proceed to where we have our static display which will have us roll through an on-base checkpoint.  For participants specific details will be forthcoming with an email each will receive before Monday\, September 16th. \nHere are the beachcombers participating (listed by car) each day at the Air Show: \nFriday\, September 20th (cars listed after the 8th are alternates): \n\nBill Kaelin\nMike Ware\nAnnie Lahren\nPete Taylor\nJohnny Jones\nBob Bray\nTom Quicke\nJay Vega\n\n\n\nSaturday\, September 21st (cars listed after the 8th are alternates): \n\n\nDee Dee and Howard Hodges\nWendy Hanson and Bill Kaelin\nLV and Tank Torain\nPreston Powers\nRuth Baum\nTerrie and Kent Wagoner\nAnnie Lahren\nPete Taylor\n\n\n\nSunday\, September 22nd (cars listed after the 8th are alternates): \n\n\nBill Kaelin\nJohn Pitts\nKaren and Dave Ambrose\nAnnie Lahren\nRalph Scichilone\nKristie Hollingsworth\nPete Taylor\nMike Ware\n\n\n\n  \nThese lists will be updated periodically.  These lists last updated on September 21st.

Below is the itinerary for our region: \n\nMonday August 26\, 2024: Asheville NC. Registration packet pickup. Evening Meet and Greet.\nTuesday August 27\, 2024: Asheville NC. Registration packet pickup. Lunch at Deer Park Inn at the Biltmore. Depart for Sevierville TN.\nWednesday August 28\, 2024: Sevierville TN. Depart for Bowling Green KY.\n\nTo join our regional caravan\, you need to fill out and mail in the form located here ($150/person).  Know that when you fill out this regional form to mail\, you can check a box if you need a room in Bowling Green and what is your departure date from Bowling green.  Other Beachcombers who have done so\, received information about the hotel arrangements to be made in Bowling Green\, Asheville and Sevierville (more below).  Know that Kim Sheldon is our regional Captain.  Her e-mail is: kimsheldonsc@gmail.com and Bob Meyer is the Virginia Captain. His email is: bobmeyerva@gmail.com. \nRegional caravans will form and join other caravans as they travel across the United States to meet in Bowling Green\, Kentucky for four days of festivities at the National Corvette Museum. The Museum is located at I-65\, exit 28 in South Central Kentucky and is open daily\, 8am to 5pm Central Time. Stay up to date with the Museum by subscribing to emails online here. \n2024 National Corvette Caravan – All roads lead to Bowling Green\, Kentucky for the 30th Anniversary of the National Corvette Museum \nYou will also need to register with the National Corvette Museum here (per person: Lifetime NCM Members – $50\, NCM Members – $60\, Non-members – $85).  Once registered the Museum should help with hotels in Bowling Green.  While in Bowling Green\, expect to check in on Wednesday\, August 28th\, checking out on Saturday (August 31st)\, Sunday (September 1st)\, or however long you wish to stay in the area.  Beachcombers who are going may organize a follow-on trip or arrange a group to drive home (more to follow). \nHere’s what I know…  REGISTER AND BOOK NOW!!! \nRegister for both the regional caravan and at the Museum with the links provided above.  Book your hotel night in Asheville\, NC.  Book your hotel night in Sevierville\, TN.  Book your nights in Bowling Green\, KY.  As we get closer BCC will announce what will follow as related to the drive home or another follow-on trip itinerary. \nOther Beachcombers have blazed the trail through the registrations and hotel bookings.  Regional Caravan information for hotels in Bowling Green\, KY\, Asheville\, NC and Sevierville\, TN is here.  Note also\, the hotels in Asheville\, NC also have the same rate for the Sunday night before (August 25th) for those who wish to start early!  I also believe that if you register at the Museum\, the registration package/email will help with room arrangements during your stay in Bowling Green. \nHeldur Liivak has booked the following: Monday\, August 26th in Asheville – the Double Tree by Hilton-Biltmore ($139 plus taxes and fees)\, Tuesday\, August 27th in Sevierville\, TN – Comfort Suites ($109 plus taxes and fees)\, Wed-Sun\, August 28th\, September 1st in Bowling Green KY – Hampton Inn ($247/night INCLUDING taxes and fees).
