SUMMARY:Vettes versus the Dragon
DESCRIPTION:This year’s event has sold out.  Next year’s dates will be announced later this year.\nVettes versus the Dragon and Smoky Mountain Drives are sponsoring an event in the area surrounding the famous “Tail of the Dragon”.  This 3-day corvette-only rain-or-shine event includes over 600 miles of epic mountain driving.  A link to their Facebook page is here.  If you wish to drive with the group\, you can register here.  Tickets are $199 for car and driver which includes a catered dinner on Friday\, a Vettes versus the Dragon T-shirt\, event packet with detailed route map\, and more.  For a passenger\, the cost is $30 which includes the T-shirt and Friday dinner.  The event is limited to 100 corvettes\, and you must provide a valid Driver’s License\, proof of Insurance and be 18 years or older to drive.  To see what the drive is about\, click the link here. \nThe host hotel is the Fontana Village Resort (see the blue box under “VENUES” also has their phone number).  There is a discounted rate for your stay.  To receive the discount\, you must call the hotel’s reception desk and mention you’re with the group. \nThere are driving events starting Friday morning\, throughout Saturday\, and 1/2 the day on Sunday.  There is a Thursday night check-in as well as Friday morning.  Friday after driving the welcome dinner will be at 129 HUB known as the “Dragon Welcome Center” (see the blue box under “VENUES”).  After driving on Saturday\, there will be a bonfire at the resort.  Sunday being a shorter day\, about 1/2 the group leaves for the commute home. \nBeachcombers will meet at Greenbrier Mall Thursday morning (time to be determined) for the 8+ hour 500+ mile drive to the Resort.  Beachcombers who are interested can help decide to stay Sunday night or check out and drive home.  At a minimum it would be a 3-night Stay checking in on Thursday and checking out on Sunday. \nPlease RSVP below and let me know your plans to help organize the group’s travel.  If you make room reservations at the resort\, please let me know the discount.  A check at hotels.com has the resort’s rate at $147/night during this period. \nHere is a list by car of Beachcombers who are planning to go: \n\nJohn Clyburn\nConnie and Tim Miller\n\nThis list will be updated periodically.  This list last updated on June 25th. \n

SUMMARY:2024 Holiday/Christmas Party
DESCRIPTION:Our annual Holiday/Christmas party will once again be at the Hilton DoubleTree Hotel. We decided to not have a theme this year\, so traditional holiday party attire is in order. SUMMARY:Valentine's Day Fun Run

DESCRIPTION:We’re heading to the Surf Rider in Poquoson\, VA.  A link to the Surf Rider’s menu is here. \nWe’ll first meet at 11:00AM at Greenbrier Mall at the parking lot next to Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant.  We’ll sign our NCCC waiver\, have our driver’s meeting at 11:15AM\, and head out for a 40-minute/28-mile drive to Suffolk.  We’ll arrive at 12:00PM to stop and meet other beachcombers at the Food Lion located at 2815 Godwin Blvd\, Suffolk VA 23434.  As needed\, rest rooms are in the Food Lion at the end of aisle 11 next to the Frozen Foods.  We’ll have our west side beachcombers sign our NCCC waiver\, then have another driver’s meeting at 12:15PM and head out at 12:20PM for our fun run.  The fun run will take approximately 40 minutes and 21 miles of back roads as we head north out of Suffolk towards Smithfield and Bartlett.  We should be driving through at Bartlett at 1:10PM where we’ll turn on Route 17 to head over the James River Bridge.  From Bartlett\, its approximately 35 minutes and 19 miles to the Surf Rider. \nFor those attending the luncheon at the Surf Rider but do not wish to participate in the fun run drive can just head to the Surf Rider and meet the fun run group which should arrive between 1:30 and 1:45PM.  We should hopefully be seated before 2:00PM to begin our luncheon.  We will give out red roses and chocolates.  Between 3:30 and 4:00PM we’ll have announcements and pick our door prize winners!  Afterwards we’ll have photos both inside and outside the restaurant.  At that time\, each will find their way home.  Some may wish to continue the day.  This will be discussed at the Food Lion meetup.  If there is a group wanting to go somewhere\, we’ll meet after the luncheon outside the Surf Rider and determine where and head there.
