SUMMARY:Holiday Parade at the Beach
DESCRIPTION:The parade organizers have accepted our application to participate!  We are limited to 8 cars and all cars must be decorated (no political messages)!  The parade will be along Atlantic Avenue between 15th and 25th Streets.  The parade steps off at 5:30PM.  The acceptance e-mail states that no candy can be thrown or handed to spectators from within our cars and that we be staged on Atlantic Ave by 4:00PM.  Staging will be between 7th and 15th St on Atlantic Ave.  I’ve adjusted our meet time to now be at 3:30PM. Here are some things I learned from those in need: \n\nEveryone donates Kraft Mac and Cheese in the box. They can rarely use it because it needs milk and butter which is hard to get from regular food banks.\nBoxed milk is a treasure\, as kids need it for cereal which they also get a lot of.\nEveryone donates pasta sauce and spaghetti noodles.\nThey cannot eat all the awesome canned veggies and soup unless you put a can opener in too or buy pop tops.\nOil is a luxury but needed for Rice a-Roni which they also get a lot of.\nSpices or salt and pepper would be a real gift.\nTea bags and coffee make them feel like you care.\nSugar and flour are treats.\nThey fawn over fresh produce donated by farmers and grocery stores.\nSeeds are cool in Spring and Summer because growing can be easy for some.\nThey rarely get fresh meat.\nTuna and crackers make a good lunch.\nHamburger Helper goes nowhere without ground beef.\nThey get lots of peanut butter and jelly but usually not sandwich bread.\nButter or margarine is nice too.\nEggs are a real commodity.\nCake mix and frosting makes it possible to make a child’s birthday cake.\nDishwashing detergent is very expensive and is always appreciated.\nFeminine hygiene products are a luxury and women will cry over that.\nEveryone loves Stove Top Stuffing.\n\nIn all the years I have donated food\, I bought what I thought they wanted\, but have never asked. I am glad I did. If you are helping a Family\, maybe this can help you tailor it more. It does for me! \n

SUMMARY:Veterans Day Parade

SUMMARY:Corvette Track Attack at Dominion Raceway
DESCRIPTION:Ken Holley of Hampton Roads Corvette Club (HRCC) has organized a “Corvette only” event for Dominion Raceway located at 6501 Dominion Raceway Ave\, Woodford\, VA 22580 about 45 minutes North of Richmond.  There will be a maximum of 24 Corvettes for this event.  Know that he has 6-8 spots remaining. \nHere are the details… \nThe group will arrive at the Raceway at noon and register.  There is no automotive tech inspection and helmets are not required.  Please self-inspect your car!  Following registration\, there will be a drivers’ meeting at 1:00PM which lasts about 1/2 hour.  After the meeting\, the group splits into two.  The first group will head out on the track.  Halfway around\, the 2nd group enters the track.  Initially\, each group moves (relatively) slowly allowing the drivers to acclimate to the track and slowly speed up.  The first session ends after 6-7 laps and the track is exited.  Each group shuffles their order and heads out for a 2nd session of 6-7 laps.  Cars leave the track again and reshuffle.  A third session occurs for a last set of 6-7 laps.  Once over\, cars exit the track.  Expect max speed of 100+mph on the straightaway. All of this is $99.00.  Time at the Raceway is approximately 2 to 2-1/2 hours. \nAfter everyone leaves to head home approximately 2:30PM.  The HRCC will have a twisty drive to Tappahannock for a lunch if you wanted to continue the day for a late lunch\, or just head home. \nSince its a 2-1/2 hour drive to the Raceway\, Beachcombers will meet at Greenbrier Mall at 9:00AM near Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant.  Depart 9:15AM and head to the I-64 Rest Area in New Kent\, VA at mile marker 213.  Arrive at the Rest Area at 10:30AM.  Depart the Rest Area at 10:45AM.  Arrive at the Raceway by noon. \nIf you wish to go\, you will have to contact Ken Holley directly: \nKen Holley\nText/Cell (757) 291-3468\nemail:  keninwmbg@aol.com \n\n\n \nOnce you’ve contacted Ken\, you will have to register at the track\, to identify yourself\, your car and payment information.  Ken will provide a link to register to his private Corvette Track Attack event where you can then pre-register.\n\n\n \nA short video to see a Track Attack event at the Raceway is here.  The Raceway has information about Track Attack events here.\n \nHere are some other route possibilities to drive with a group if you decide to not drive as above:\n\nContact Ken (as above)\, he will lead a group leaving from a location in Hampton.\nContact Ed Bickham (757-434-3046). SUMMARY:Oceana Air Show
DESCRIPTION:For many years\, the Beachcombers have been supporting the Virginia Patriot Guard Riders with their vignette at the Oceana Air Show.  This year will be like last year with our cars on the Tarmac each day of the air show as part of the “Static Display”.  We will be adjacent to where the VPG will have their motorcycles (left/southwest of show center).  We will be escorting women in aviation in our cars each day of the air show.  Knowing the Oceana Air show website (here) indicates the air show is Saturday and Sunday.  There is also an air show on Friday.  The Friday air show is not open to the public.  It is open only to DOD members\, their families\, and 5th graders from local schools.  As of now\, we will open the air show each day.  Our vignette will start between 10-10:30AM and should be finished around 11:00AM.  After the vignette\, you can leave NAS Oceana\, or return to the static display and watch the air show.  If you will be able to leave before the end of the air show. \nLt. DESCRIPTION:Join our friends from the Old Dominion Corvette Club of Sterling Virginia for their 34th Annual All Corvette Cruise in at Bomnin Chevrolet in Manassas Virginia.  Pre-registration is $15.00 (before August 11th\, link is below).  Day of Show is $20.  This is a rain or shine event.  Proceeds to benefit LAWS Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services\, Prince WIlliam County Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children\, and the National Corvette Museum.  All entrants to receive a dash plaque and door prize ticket.  There will be a DJ\, Food Trucks\, Silent Auction\, 50/50 raffle and more. \nIt’s a 3 to 3-1/2 hour drive from Virginia Beach to the Bomnin dealership.  Could be just a long one-day trip to participate in the show. \nYou can pre-register at the website address in the blue “DETAILS” box on this page which is also here. \nIf you’re interested\, please let me know!

SUMMARY:12th Annual Extortion 17 Ride
DESCRIPTION:We will be participating in this annual ride.  The Virginia Patriot Guard (VPG) organizes this event every year.  We have the Virginia Beach Police escort the ride which encircles Virginia Beach.  We start at Lendy’s Cafe.  There we will have a brief ceremony with an Honor Guard\, singing the National Anthem\, a benediction\, and the Frogmen MC will be reading the names of the 30 soldiers\, Sailors\, Airmen and 1 Military Working Dog who gave their ultimate sacrifice defending our freedom.  For those who do not know Extortion 17 refers to the call sign used for the helicopter transporting special ops personnel which was shot down over Afghanistan on August 6th\, 2011.  Here is a link to a good write up about this tragedy.  Once the ride is over\, you can go or stay at Lendy’s Cafe for lunch and beverages. \nKnow that we may be asked to carry gold star family members\, so let me know if you will have an empty seat or not.  The VPG is also asking how many of us are going to stay after the ride to have lunch at Lendy’s.  They are blocking off parking area in front of Lendy’s for when we return from the ride. \nA link to the VPG Mission Orders detailing the event is here. \nThis will be a rain or shine event and we have room for 20 cars.  Please sign up below before August 2nd! \nBelow is a list of participants: \n\nWendy Hanson and Bill Kaelin\nTom Quicke and Joey Fontana\nPatrick Nolan and Ramiro Satizabal\nJohn Kummers\nMarge and Joe Wryk\nPreston Powers\nTerrie and Kent Wagoner\nKaren and Dave Ambrose\n\nThis list will be updated periodically.  This list was last updated on August 3rd. \n

The celebration will include: – Franklin Cruise In (Starting at 4pm) – Franklin Market on Main (Starting at 4pm) – Live Band at Barrett’s Landing (6pm-9pm) – Free hotdogs & watermelon courtesy of Franklin Experience (Starting at 6:30 – while supplies last) -FIREWORKS (9:15pm) Our local shops and restaurants will also be open\, and we encourage you to visit them as well! \n\n\n\n\n
