SUMMARY:71st Annual NATO Parade of Nations
DESCRIPTION:The Norfolk annual NATO parade is the longest continuously running parade in Hampton Roads and the only parade in the United States honoring NATO!  Over 100 Parade Units with local and visiting high school bands\, U.S. and International Military bands\, and colorful floats which represent each of the NATO Member Nations! SUMMARY:57th Norfolk St. Patrick's Day Parade
DESCRIPTION:The Norfolk St. Patrick’s Day Parade steps off at 10:00AM and is in my opinion\, the best parade we participate in each year!  The 1.5+ mile parade route has the most enthusiastic crowd for most of this route.  There is a large police presence to make sure all are safe.  Also know that the parade generally occurs even in light rain.  Should the weather not cooperate\, I’ll be checking the website (here) at the bottom of the page to see if there’s any weather update affecting the start time of the parade and pass this along to participants. \nBeforehand\, we will be meeting between 8:15 AM and 8:30 AM at the Southern Shopping center behind the Bojangles (7519 Tidewater Drive\, Norfolk\, VA 23505) there you will be asked to sign our customary NCCC Waiver Form.  At 8:30 AM the Beachcombers will drive together (approximate 2 miles) and make a left on Westmont Avenue to our parade staging location.  We have the same staging location as we had last year:  “Section 2\, Position 43”.  As last year\, a very close street address to this is: 142 E Westmont Ave\, Norfolk\, VA 23503.  Once parked/staged\, we’ll decorate our cars and wait for our turn to start.  Although the parade steps off at 10:00AM\, it usually takes 1/2 hour before we roll.  The anticipation for all parade participants is quite exciting.  The parade route is on the back side of the flyer (red button on this page labeled “Download Flyer”.  You’ll see that when we roll\, we turn right onto Granby St and continue to the last left turn before E Ocean View Avenue and then another left onto First View Street where the parade ends shortly after. \nBy all means bring decorations for your car and wear attire appropriate as long as its green! \nIf you’re interested\, please sign-up/RSVP below.  Even if we have 10 cars signed up\, please sign up as an alternate!  Last year we rolled in the parade with only 8 cars due to dropouts. \nOnce the parade is over\, you can head home or head to near the Columbian Club of Ocean View at 211 W Government Ave\, Norfolk\, VA 23503.  The club hosts an after party which starts after the parade is over (approximately noon) and ends at 4PM.  The after party is open to everyone who is 21 years of age or older.  The party serves water\, soda\, beer and wine; and there are food vendors.  There is an outdoor stage with a band.  There is also a band playing inside.  It’s a lot of fun!  The back side of the flyer also shows where the Columbian Club is located.  I usually go home first and switch cars to my daily driver and then head back to the Columbian Club.  Parking is challenging and usually has me parking about 1/2 mile away in a single-family home neighborhood. \nBelow is a list of cars with Driver and Passenger names: \n\nWendy Hanson and Bill Kaelin\nLV and Mike Torain\nAngela and Mike Stallworth\nKam and Mack Coppage\nPatrick Nolan\nWayne Sparrow and Ralph Scichilone\nDee Dee and Howard Hodges\nKristie Hollingsworth\nKaren and Dave Ambrose\nJeff Biggs and Michele Suttle\n\nBelow is a list of alternate cars with Driver and Passenger names: \n\nPreston Powers\nKaren Damari and Andy Roth\nTrudy and Denny Garland\n\nThese lists will be updated periodically.  These lists last updated on March 15th.

SUMMARY:33rd St Patrick's Day Parade
DESCRIPTION:The Rods and Customs group of Manteo/Nags Head will have a group of cars in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Nags Head.  The R&C group has invited us and other car clubs to join their group in the parade.  Last year\, they had 41 cars!  The R&C group makes a weekend of it to include activities Friday night\, Saturday\, and Sunday.  I don’t have any detail as to activities other than the parade on Sunday and after. \nBeachcombers wishing to participate in the parade on Sunday can meet the R&C group at 11:00AM at the American Classics Garage (here) located at 1808 S Croatan Hwy\, Kill Devil Hills\, NC 27948.  From there the group will head to the parade staging area at 11:30AM and get in line before noon.  The address of the staging area is: 2316 S Croatan Hwy Nags Head\, NC 27959. The parade steps off at 1:00PM.  After the parade if you’re interested\, there will be a cruise-in luncheon at Shipwrecks Taphouse & Grill (here) located at 4020 N Croatan Hwy\, Kitty Hawk\, NC 27949. \nIf you’re wishing to book a hotel for Saturday or Friday/Saturday night\, the Manteo Motor Lodge (here) will be offering discounts.  The Lodge is located at 100 US 64\, Manteo\, NC 27954.  The lodge’s phone number is 252-423-3130. \nIf you have any questions\, you can call Mike Tillett of the R&C at 252-305-5789. \nThe sign-up/RSVP is below.  If we get a lot of attendees\, I’ll help organize group travel on Saturday and Sunday.

DESCRIPTION:The Car Club Council of Hampton Roads (CCCHR) is hosting a mystery cruise and is open to all CLUBS\, MEMBERS\, AND SOLO RIDERS! ALL MAKES AND MODELS! bring the daily and let’s ride!  Our route will be provided in the morning before we depart. This is a great way to meet new friends\, get your car/truck out of winter storage and have some fun. We will meet at Greenbrier Mall at 0930 in front of the old Sears\, with a departure at 1000 for our destination. Come with a full tank of fuel. This trip will be approximately 2 hours one way to our destination. We will divide up into groups of 5-7 cars with a lead car who is responsible for that group. \nThis Mystery Cruise will be canceled in the event of inclement weather. This is a Sunshine only event!!

SUMMARY:Valentine's Day Fun Run

SUMMARY:Holiday Parade at the Beach
DESCRIPTION:The parade organizers have accepted our application to participate!  We are limited to 8 cars and all cars must be decorated (no political messages)!  The parade will be along Atlantic Avenue between 15th and 25th Streets.  The parade steps off at 5:30PM.  The acceptance e-mail states that no candy can be thrown or handed to spectators from within our cars and that we be staged on Atlantic Ave by 4:00PM.  Staging will be between 7th and 15th St on Atlantic Ave.  I’ve adjusted our meet time to now be at 3:30PM. Here are some things I learned from those in need: \n\nEveryone donates Kraft Mac and Cheese in the box. They can rarely use it because it needs milk and butter which is hard to get from regular food banks.\nBoxed milk is a treasure\, as kids need it for cereal which they also get a lot of.\nEveryone donates pasta sauce and spaghetti noodles.\nThey cannot eat all the awesome canned veggies and soup unless you put a can opener in too or buy pop tops.\nOil is a luxury but needed for Rice a-Roni which they also get a lot of.\nSpices or salt and pepper would be a real gift.\nTea bags and coffee make them feel like you care.\nSugar and flour are treats.\nThey fawn over fresh produce donated by farmers and grocery stores.\nSeeds are cool in Spring and Summer because growing can be easy for some.\nThey rarely get fresh meat.\nTuna and crackers make a good lunch.\nHamburger Helper goes nowhere without ground beef.\nThey get lots of peanut butter and jelly but usually not sandwich bread.\nButter or margarine is nice too.\nEggs are a real commodity.\nCake mix and frosting makes it possible to make a child’s birthday cake.\nDishwashing detergent is very expensive and is always appreciated.\nFeminine hygiene products are a luxury and women will cry over that.\nEveryone loves Stove Top Stuffing.\n\nIn all the years I have donated food\, I bought what I thought they wanted\, but have never asked. I am glad I did. If you are helping a Family\, maybe this can help you tailor it more. It does for me! \n

SUMMARY:Veterans Day Parade

SUMMARY:Beachcombers Fall Picnic
DESCRIPTION:We’re all set for our Fall Picnic!  We will be heading back to Currituck BBQ Company in Barco\, NC.  To drive with the group\, we will meet at Greenbrier mall in the parking lot near Abuelo’s Mexican restaurant at 11:30AM.  We will depart at 11:45AM.  We will be using the pavilion adjacent to the restaurant and park in the field near the pavilion where we’ve parked in the past.  We will have 2 door prizes.  After lunch\, we will have a poker run.  The cost is $15/member and $15 for one guest.  Each additional guest will be $35.00.  Please bring your payment to our monthly Business meeting.  The last date to sign up is Friday\, October 6th. SUMMARY:Corvette Track Attack at Dominion Raceway
DESCRIPTION:Ken Holley of Hampton Roads Corvette Club (HRCC) has organized a “Corvette only” event for Dominion Raceway located at 6501 Dominion Raceway Ave\, Woodford\, VA 22580 about 45 minutes North of Richmond.  There will be a maximum of 24 Corvettes for this event.  Know that he has 6-8 spots remaining. \nHere are the details… \nThe group will arrive at the Raceway at noon and register.  There is no automotive tech inspection and helmets are not required.  Please self-inspect your car!  Following registration\, there will be a drivers’ meeting at 1:00PM which lasts about 1/2 hour.  After the meeting\, the group splits into two.  The first group will head out on the track.  Halfway around\, the 2nd group enters the track.  Initially\, each group moves (relatively) slowly allowing the drivers to acclimate to the track and slowly speed up.  The first session ends after 6-7 laps and the track is exited.  Each group shuffles their order and heads out for a 2nd session of 6-7 laps.  Cars leave the track again and reshuffle.  A third session occurs for a last set of 6-7 laps.  Once over\, cars exit the track.  Expect max speed of 100+mph on the straightaway. All of this is $99.00.  Time at the Raceway is approximately 2 to 2-1/2 hours. \nAfter everyone leaves to head home approximately 2:30PM.  The HRCC will have a twisty drive to Tappahannock for a lunch if you wanted to continue the day for a late lunch\, or just head home. \nSince its a 2-1/2 hour drive to the Raceway\, Beachcombers will meet at Greenbrier Mall at 9:00AM near Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant.  Depart 9:15AM and head to the I-64 Rest Area in New Kent\, VA at mile marker 213.  Arrive at the Rest Area at 10:30AM.  Depart the Rest Area at 10:45AM.  Arrive at the Raceway by noon. \nIf you wish to go\, you will have to contact Ken Holley directly: \nKen Holley\nText/Cell (757) 291-3468\nemail:  keninwmbg@aol.com \n\n\n \nOnce you’ve contacted Ken\, you will have to register at the track\, to identify yourself\, your car and payment information.  Ken will provide a link to register to his private Corvette Track Attack event where you can then pre-register.\n\n\n \nA short video to see a Track Attack event at the Raceway is here.  The Raceway has information about Track Attack events here.\n \nHere are some other route possibilities to drive with a group if you decide to not drive as above:\n\nContact Ken (as above)\, he will lead a group leaving from a location in Hampton.\nContact Ed Bickham (757-434-3046).
